Just the Facts, Ma'am
The Dons seek their first win of the young 2013-14 season after starting off the year with an 80-66 loss to Fordham Friday night.
USF is coming off a 2012-13 campaign in which the team finished 12-19 overall (4-12 WCC). Continuing to make progress in the rebuilding process, Jennifer Azzi's team earned its best record and first double-digit win tally since 2007-08.
Fordham Remix
The Rams capitalized on 13-of-29 3-point shooting and a +12 advantage on the boards to dispatch the Dons in the season opener for both squads.
USF was paced by junior Taj Winston, who scored 19 points and added a career-high five steals in the contest. Freshman Rachel Howard added 16 points on an effective 7-of-12 shooting in her collegiate debut.
Know the Foe
Carolyn Binder scored a game-high 28 points in her first collegiate game on 9-of-14 shooting, leading the Columbia women's basketball team to a 62-59 victory on the road at LIU Brooklyn to open the 2013-14 campaign.
New faces abound throughout the Columbia ranks, including new head coach, Stephanie Glance, who joined the squad after the Lions' 5-23 season in 2012-13.
USF and Columbia - The Series
The Dons and the Lions have met three times, with USF taking the win in each contest. This will mark the first meeting between the two in Manhattan- the Dons won home games in 1990-91 and 1995-6 by scores of 81-50 and 70-25, respectively. The third game in the all-time series took place on a neutral court, as USF defeated Columbia 63-51 in Honolulu, Hawaii, Dec. 30, 2006.

Devine's Dimes
"San Francisco visits an Ivy League school for the first time since playing at Cornell in January 2002. The Dons won both games on that trip, winning at Syracuse before following up with a win in Ithaca. That helped propel San Francisco to an 18-win season and a WNIT appearance.
"It will be fun calling a game 85 blocks north of the place where I first saw basketball-Madison Square Garden. The late Johnny Condon happens to be the first announcer I ever imitated; I used to scream 'No Basket' running around my family's apartment as a toddler!" - George Devine on USF and the Ivys
Preseason Superlatives
Las Vegas, Nev., native, Zhane Dikes earned her way on the Preseason All-WCC team after a freshman campaign where she averaged 10.8 points on 39.7 percent shooting from the field. She finished the season 13th on the WCC scoring list as the top point-getting freshman in the league.
Â
Dikes also helped the team with 3.9 rebounds, 1.7 steals and 1.5 assists. She earned the starting nod for the Dons in all 31 contests, playing the point guard position, and is one of two underclassmen to earn individual preseason honors, as voted on by the league's coaches.
