TIP-OFF: The USF Dons (6-5, 0-0 WCC) close out their non-conference schedule on Sunday against the American Eagles (3-6, 0-0 Patriot League). Tip-off is set for 2:00 p.m. in Memorial Gymnasium. The Dons dropped a 81-57 decision at St. John's on Wednesday night while the Eagles suffered a 59-44 setback at Saint Mary's in Moraga.
SERIES HISTORY: Sunday's game marks just the second meeting ever between USF and American. The Dons claimed a 67-53 in the inaugural meeting between the two schools last season at Bender Arena in Washington, D.C.
LAST YEAR'S MEETING: The Dons led virtually wire-to-wire in posting a 67-53 victory over American on Nov. 19 at Bender Arena in Washington D.C. USF led 33-31 at halftime and outscored the Eagles 16-5 at the start of the second half to build a 13-point 49-36 lead with 13:06 remaining in the game. The Dons lead was never fewer than nine point the rest of the way.
Cole Dickerson scored a game-high 20 points and De'End Parker added 19 to pace the Dons in scoring. The Dons shot 53.1 percent from the floor and outrebounded the Eagles, 28-19.
LAST TIME OUT: USF is coming off a 81-57 loss at St. John's Wednesday night.
Mark Tollefsen scored a team-igh 14 points while
Kruize Pinkins (12) and
Chris Adams (11) also reached double figures for USF. Red Storm pressure defense forced 21 Don turnovers which led to 27 points while the Johnnies also blocked nine shots. St. John's led at halftime, 43-31 and quickly increased its lead 20 points with a 11-3 run to start the second half.
Cole Dickerson fouled out with 12:23 left in the game.
