SPOKANE, Wash. – The San Francisco women's basketball team fell to the Gonzaga Bulldogs 101-65 front of a sellout crowd of 6,000 fans at the McCarthy Athletic Center on Saturday afternoon.
Taylor Proctor led the Dons with a 19 points and nine rebounds in the loss, narrowly missing her second-consecutive double-double outing. Alicia Scafidi, a sophomore from Gresham, Ore., posted a career-high 14 points on 5-of-9 shooting. Zhané Dikes added 12 points for USF in the loss.
Gonzaga, which leads the West Coast Conference with a 12-1 mark and a 22-5 overall record, is riding a 10-game winning streak after the win over the Dons. USF moves to 10-16 (3-10 WCC), and is in the midst of its best season since the 2007-08 campaign.
The Dons scored first with a drive to the basket by Proctor, but the Bulldogs gained control of the lead and the game on a jumper by Sunny Greinacher. She finished the game with a team-high 15 points on 7-of-8 shooting. Utilizing its deep bench, the Bulldogs got at least two points and a rebound from all 14 players who entered the game. The Gonzaga reserves accounted for 58 points in the contest.
After foul trouble and a scoreless first half, senior Mel Khlok added her first field goal of the afternoon with 15:31 to play before finishing with 11 points.
USF found itself on the low end in nearly every statistical category, with Gonzaga winning the battle of the boards 46-23 and owning a 50-18 advantage in the paint. The Bulldogs brought down 22 offensive rebounds in the game, which the team converted into 31 second-chance points.
Gonzaga finished with its first 100-point game of the season and its fifth win with a margin of at least 30 points. The last USF loss to an opponent scoring 100 points was Feb. 9, 2011, when Gonzaga dispatched the Dons 103-59.
In its next contest, USF hits the road for its last regular-season game away from the Hilltop. The Dons travel to San Diego to face off with the Toreros Saturday at 2 p.m.
