Diamond Dons Drop First Game of Series to Saint Mary's

SAN FRANCISCO – The University of San Francisco Diamond Dons (11-14) dropped the first game of their weekend series to the Saint Mary's Gaels (8-18) Friday by a score of 6-0 at Benedetti Diamond.
 
Gaels starter Ben Griset pitched a complete-game shutout, scattering four hits and striking out ten.
 
The Dons best scoring opportunity came in the first inning, when Justin Maffei reached third base with one out before being stranded to end the inning.
 
Abe Bobb allowed four runs in six innings of work and was the victim of poor defense behind him as the Dons committed a season-high five errors.
 
Bradley Zimmer had two hits, and Bob Cruikshank and Bob Mott singled for USF.
 
The teams are back in action tomorrow at Benedetti Diamond. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
