Final Results
COLUMBIA, Mo. -- USF's men's golf team shot a 9-over 297 on Tuesday to finish fourth at the Columbia Preview held at the Old Hawthorne Golf Club.
Witha 54-hole total of 876 (+12), the Dons finished 24 strokes behind first place Missouri, which claimed the team title with a 12-under score of 852. The Tigers earned a five stroke victory over Iowa State (857) while Austin Peay State finished third at 870, six strokes in front of USF. Tulsa (879) rounded out the top-five.
Emilo Cuartero of Missouri claimed medalist honors with an 11-under score of 285, earning a five stroke victory over Michael Garretson of South Alabama.
USF's Cory McElyea tied for sixth at 214 (-2) after the senior closed with a round of 72 on Tuesday. McElyea got off to a slow start, making back-to-back bogeys on his first two holes and was still 2-over par after 10 holes. He preceeded to pick up three birdies over his last eight holes to finish at even par 72.
Sophomore Sebastian Crookall-Nixon earned a top-10 finish, tying for ninth at 215 (-1) after turning in a third round 71 on Tuesday. Crookall-Nixon was 2-under through 10 holes but a triple bogey on the par-3 16th pushed him back to 1-over for the day. However, he followed the triple bogey with an eagle 2 on the par-4 17th to get back into red numbers for the day.
Senior Alika Bell tied for 28th with a 7-over score of 223. Bell's final round 73 was sabotaged by a quadruple bogey nine of the par-5 15th hole.
Emil Liljeroth, who shot a final round 82, tied for 54th with a 15-over score of 231.
USF will be back in action next week at the Saint Mary's Invitational, which will be contested on the Bayonet and Black Horse Courses in Seaside, Calif.
