Dons Head to ITA Regional Tournament

STANFORD, Calif.- USF's women's tennis team will continue their fall season at Stanford this weekend playing in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Northwest Regional at the Taube Family Tennis Stadium.
Teams participating in the tournament include #16 California, Cal Poly, Eastern Washington, Fresno State, Gonzaga, #43 Oregon, Pacific, Portland, Portland State, Sacramento State, Saint Mary's, San Francisco, San Jose State, #56 Santa Clara, Seattle, #32 Stanford, UC Davis, Washington and Washington State.
"I am hoping for a strong showing from our team," said head coach Hilary Somers. "We have been working hard on the court and conditioning. I hope we will play confidently and that everyone expects to win their matches."
The entire women's team will be competing together for the first time in their fall season. Milica Hadzi-Tanovic, will be using her White Singles Championship momentum at the Cal Invitational to mirror another positive result in singles play this weekend. Sofia Holmberg will be stepping on the court for the first time in singles play. Marina Nikolic is looking to add to her winning fall record at the tournament. Andrea Ka will be playing for the first time since returning from the Asian Games. Thyra Taune, Ines Teixeira and Genevieve McCloskey will also be participating in singles play.
Three USF pairings will be playing in the doubles draw at the tournament for the Green and Gold. The duo of Ka and Nikolic will be looking to improve their 18-4 winning record they had ended last season with. Holmberg and Taune will be reuniting in doubles play and are determined to win. The new doubles duo of the season, Hadzi-Tanovic and Teixeira, will also be participating in the doubles draw.
Action will begin on Friday at 8:30 a.m. with the first two rounds of singles and the opening slate of doubles. The competition continues Saturday with two more rounds on both singles and doubles with the quarterfinals set for Sunday. Semifinals for singles and doubles are contested Monday, before the championship matches on Tuesday.
The Dons will continue their fall slate at the Saint Mary's Invitational on Oct. 24.
