Between the Baselines
The Dons are led by senior
Taylor Proctor's 23.6 points on .562 shooting and 10.0 rebounds per game, and
Zhane Dikes adds 13.4 points and a team-high 2.6 steals per night. Junior
Rachel Howard rounds out the double-figure scorers with 11.6 points, hitting 40.7 percent of her attempts from beyond the arc. Proctor's point tally currently rates 11th in the NCAA.Â
As a team, USF is leading the WCC in assists per game with
Anna Seilund and Howard landing in the league top 10. The Dons' .469 shooting percentage stands in 26th nationally, and second in the league.
Gang Green
Counting the Hornets, the Dons have faced off with five fellow squads which sport Green as their primary color. The only non-green team USF has lined up against this season is NCAA DII opponent Holy Names.
Know the Foe
Sacramento State opens its home slate after starting the season on the road, going 1-2 in the opening weeks of the year. The Hornets lead the Big Sky and rank second in the NCAA in offensive rebounds per game (26.0), and third in steals per game (16.3).Â
Individually, Adella Randle-El leads the team with 17.7 points, 3.2 steals and 2.0 assists per game. Maranne Johnson adds 11.0 points of offense for the team, and Kyhonta Doughty's 6.3 rebounds a night pace the Hornets. The 3-point shooting squad averages 10.3 triples on 40 attempts from beyond the arc each night.
Series Snippits
The Dons lead the all-time series against Sacramento State, 6-5. The last meeting against the Hornet happened to be at The Nest three years ago to the day. In that game, USF committed 34 turnovers which led to 39 points for Sacramento State as the Hornets pulled out the 68-60 victory.
Last Time Out
The San Francisco women's basketball team rebounded from Monday's heartbreaker with a 74-57 victory over North Dakota on Wednesday at War Memorial at The Sobrato Center.
"It's not about the loss, it's about how we react to the loss," noted senior captain
Zhane Dikes. "For us to come back and react, play together, play smarter and clean up those errors that we had in the two past games really shows that we're a great team when we're together."
USF (3-2) reacted with gusto, particularly on the defensive end of the court, holding North Dakota (1-4) to 20 percent shooting in the first half. The Fighting Hawks could only manage four points in the first 10 minutes of the action, shooting 2-of-15 in the quarter as the Dons make short work of the boards with the 15-5 advantage on the glass.
USF was led by Proctor's 20-point night, her fourth-straight contest reaching the 20-point plateau. She added eight rebounds and a game-high five assists to her stat line. Dikes turned in a 19-point nine-rebound game for USF, going 6-for-9 from the floor, and Howard chipped in 10 points in the victory.
