Between the Baselines
The USF offense has been operating with teamwork and synergy at the forefront this season. The Dons rank second in the league and 47th in NCAA Division I in shooting percentage, hitting 43.8 percent of their attempts from the floor. Coupled with a league-leading 17.0 assists per game, good for 26th in the nation, the collaborative nature of the offense has been a focus point.Â
The Dons are led by senior
Taylor Proctor's 19.5 points on .508 shooting, 9.1 rebounds, 3.6 assists and 1.4 blocks per game.
Zhane Dikes adds 14.8 points and 7.4 rebounds and 2.1 steals, and
Rachel Howard contributes 12.0 points on .389 shooting from beyond the arc and 3.4 assists.Â
Proctor is high on the national leaderboards in multiple categories, including field goals made (131/13th), total points (351/14th), double-doubles (7/31st) and minutes (600/26th) among others.
Know the Foe
Pepperdine enters Saturday's game with a 5-12 mark and a 1-5 record in WCC action. The Waves' lone win in league play came against Porltand on Dec. 23. Despite dropping its last four games, three of the four had a margin of 10 points or less, and Pepperdine's loss to Santa Clara on Thursday was a 62-60 affair.
The Waves are led by freshman Erica Ogwumike's 16.9 points, 7.4 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 2.0 steals per game a game.
Series Snippits
The Dons hold the slim 36-35 advantage in the all-time series, and USF has won five of the last six, and each of the past two meetings at Firestone Fieldhouse against the Waves.
Last Time Out
The Dons' defense set the tone at the tip, and by the final buzzer it was defense that came up clutch in the end. Down to the last ticks on the clock, it took the full 45 minutes and five periods for the San Francisco women's basketball team to outlast Loyola Marymount 75-73 on Thursday night at Gersten Pavilion.
USF was paced by four double-digit scoring efforts, led by
Zhane Dikes' 21 points, five rebounds and four steals. Nine of her 21 came in the overtime period, where the senior from Las Vegas was 2-for-2 from the floor and 4-of-6 from the line to help seal the victorious effort.
Rachel Howard contributed 12 points,
Kalyn Simon added 10, and
Taylor Proctor finished with 11 points, nine rebounds and seven assists in the game. Proctor, a senior from Colorado Springs, Colo., reached a milestone in the contest, surpassing Melinda Harrison ('85-89) to own third place in the career rebounding records, with 813. She needs 57 more to leap to second.
Doubling Up
Taylor Proctor has scored in double figures in each of this season's games, and dating back to the 2014-15 season, the senior from Colorado Springs, Colo., has put together a string of 24 straight games with at least 10 points.
