The USF women's basketball team is looking to build on its 79-71 win over San Jose State last week when they travel to San Luis Obispo to take on Cal Poly at 4 p.m. on Saturday afternoon.

USF (5-4) got a career-high 22 points from junior Anna Seilund in the win over San Jose State. Seilund, along with leading scorer Rachel Howard (14.3 ppg), will be looking to help the Dons improve to 8-5 over Big West opponents over the last three-plus seasons, including wins over Sacramento State (91-80, Nov. 11) and Long Beach State (73-71, Nov. 20) earlier this year.

Junior Kalyn Simon also aims to keep her hot shooting going into the weekend. Simon has connected at a 53.6 percent (15-28) clip from the field over her last four games, including a career-high 20 points at Fresno State on Nov. 30.

That consistency will surely be of use against Cal Poly (4-5), who comes into the game having lost two of their last three, including a 64-59 defeat at Grand Canyon this past Saturday. The Dons will have to matchup defensively with a trio of double-digit scorers in preseason All-Big West picks Hannah Gilbert (14.9) and Dynn Leaupepe (13.6), along with Lynn Leaupepe (14.1), who also leads the Mustangs in rebounding at 8.3 boards per contest.

The Dons have only had one game this year decided by less than eight points, but if Saturday's contest comes down to the wire, USF will hope Cal Poly cools off at the free throw line where the Mustangs ranks 15th nationally at 78.2 percent. The Dons have been no slouches at the charity stripe themselves, sitting just outside the top-50 nationally (73.7 percent).

Looking ahead, USF returns to War Memorial at the Sobrato Center on Dec. 21 when they host UC Davis for a rare midweek matinee as the Dons and Aggies tip at 1 p.m. in the final nonconference game of the year before opening WCC play at San Diego on Dec. 29.

SERIES SNIPPETS
USF holds a 13-7 lead in the all-time series, but Cal Poly has dominated recently by winning six of the last seven meetings. USF's only win during that stretch came with a 71-67 victory on the road in 2012-13. The Dons won 11 of the first 12 matchups, dating back to the first-ever meeting in 1980-81, a 69-47 victory at USF. Last year, Taylor Proctor logged a double-double with 21 points and 13 rebounds in a 62-61 loss in San Francisco where USF had a chance to tie the game with 5.7 seconds left, but Zhane Dikes was unaware of the three-point margin and opted for a last-second layup that left the Dons one point short as time expired.
