TUCSON, Ariz. – It was a scoreless contest until the 70th minute when Arizona's Hannah Stevens scored the game winner to hand the USF women's soccer team a 1-0 loss on Sunday afternoon.
Stevens' header off a throw in was the only goal of a contest where Arizona (5-1-1) held a commanding edge in shots at 13-5. USF (3-5-0) struggled to get some offensive momentum going.
Amanda Whittle had the Dons' only shot on goal when her chance in the 32nd minute was batted away by Arizona keeper Lainey Burdett.
Izzie Lueken had her own attempt just miss when her header sailed wide in the 56th minute.
The Dons held a 7-6 edge in corner kicks on the day.
Makayla Presgrave's nine saves matched her season high (Cal Poly, Aug. 26).
The Dons were matching up with yet another upper-tier opponent in Arizona, who was receiving votes in the most recent NSCAA top-25 coming into the weekend.
UP NEXT: The Dons wrap up their season-long seven game road swing with a 2 p.m. matchup at No. 12 Cal on Friday afternoon – their third Pac-12 opponent in as many games – before returning home on Sunday to host UC Davis at 4 p.m. from Negoesco Stadium.
