SAN FRANCISCO - In a quick up-and-back trip, the Dons dropped a match, 3-1, to Sacramento State on Tuesday night.
After letting the Hornets get a quick 1-0 lead in the match, the visitors from the Bay Area bounced back to take set two on a .275 hitting percentage with 15 kills. It was a short-lived rally though as Sacramento State went on to win set three, 25-18, and then set four, 25-14. The deciding set saw a hitting percentage of .467 from the Hornets.
STATS OF THE GAME
- Head coach Frank Lavrisha recorded the 1,000th match of his collegiate career. He is currently 3-7 in his first year in Division I coaching with the USF Dons. In his 30-year tenure as head coach at Regis from 1986-2016, Lavrisha compiled a 637-353 (.643) overall record, including a 374-133 (.737) mark in conference play. His teams enjoyed 15, 20-win seasons, finished with a .500 record or better 25 times, won 11 conference titles and went undefeated in conference play on three occasions.
- Coming off a season-high 17 kills in the Saturday night, five-set victory against Fresno State, sopohmore Carly Lowry led USF with 12 kills.Â
- Sabrina Blackwell registered two service aces, a season high for the defensive specialist.Â
- As a team, the Dons tied their season-high digs with 65. The previous occasion was in the five-set victory of Cal State Northridge on Sept. 8 at War Memorial at the Sobrato Center.
WHAT'S NEXT
USF returns to the Hilltop for a few days of practice before leaving for Long Beach, Calif. where the UCI/LBSU Tournament will be held. The Dons will compete against Bakersfield, UC Irvine and Long Beach State in the two-day event.Â
These four games will serve as the final tune-up for the Dons before starting West Coast Conference play on Thurs., Sept. 21 at War Memorial Gym at the Sobrato Center. The San Diego Toreros make the trip to the Bay Area for the 7 p.m. match up.Â
