LONG BEACH, Calif. -- Today, the Dons concluded UCI/LBSU Invitational play. With a difficult slate in the two-day event, the young squad faced challenges against the likes of three skilled teams in Bakersfield, UC Irvine and Long Beach State. USF dropped all three matches while competing in southern California, bringing their away record to 0-5.
STATS OF THE TOURNAMENT
- Laura Leap led in the first match against Bakersfield with 10 kills on a .385 hitting percentage. Her 10 slams ties her season high, previously achieved against Cal State Northridge.
- Leap, prevoiusly tied with Nora Buvarp-Lavik, leads the Dons in blocks tallying 15 solo blocks and 24 block assists to combine for 39 total.
- True freshman Erica Ronda powered the Dons offense, leading in kills in the final two games - 10 versus. UC Irvine, 12 versus LBSU - and tallying 29 kills on the weekend.
- Ronda now leads the team in kills with 133 on the season so far and also in serve aces with 13.
- Freshman starting setter Erin Anthony amassed 74 assists between the three matches.
- The Dons recorded their tournament-high eight blocks, all block assists, in game one of the weekend against Bakersfield.
- USF leads opponents in solo blocks with their 38 to the opponents 25.
WHAT'S NEXT
The Dons return home to the Bay Area and will immediately began preparation for their West Coast Conference opener. First up, the San Diego Toreros on Thurs., Sept. 21 at 7 p.m. Keep an eye out for a special promotion on tickets that will be announced Tuesday evening on the Dons social media channels.
