WSOC | Dons Strike First But Settle For Tie Against No. 14 Cowgirls

SAN FRANCISCO – Regulation and two overtime periods was not enough time to break the tie as the University of San Francisco women's soccer team and No. 14 Oklahoma State settled for a 1-1 draw on Friday evening at Negoesco Stadium. Â

The Dons struck first on a penalty kick in the 69
th minute by senior forward
Sonja Giraud. Nine minutes later the Cowgirls tied it up on a header from Claire Gantzer on a corner kick. The Dons were outshot by Oklahoma State 17-15, but the two sides were even with seven shot son goal each.Â
STATS OF THE GAME
- Tonight's 1-1 draw marks the fourth time this season the Dons have gone into overtime.With the tie, USF improves to 0-2-2 in overtime games this season.
- The penalty kick by Giraud is her fourth goal of the season, tied for second most in the WCC.She now has 16 career goals which puts her into a four-way tie for ninth all-time at USF.
- Sophomore keeper Olivia Camera improved to 2-4-2 on the season, she tallied six saves on the evening, giving her 57 on the year.Five of her six saves came from the second half on.
- In the second half, the Cowgirls outshot the Dons 14-9 in the second half and both overtimes. They also owned an 11-4 advantage in corner kicks, all of them coming after the first half.

USF stays at the friendly confines, when they host Oklahoma at 1:00 p.m. at Negoesco Stadium. This is the first time the Dons and Sooners have squared off.
