Dons Too Much For Seawolves in One-Sided Monday Night Affair
11/12/2018 10:20:00 PM | Men's Basketball
SAN FRANCISCO — The University of San Francisco's men's basketball team pushed its winning streak to three Monday night, dominating Sonoma State 88-54. Three finished in double figures for the Dons, led by Jordan Ratinho's game-high 20 points as USF tallied another lopsided victory at War Memorial at the Sobrato Center.
Ratinho, who tied his career-high, went off from long range going 5-for-9 from distance, he finished the night going 7-for-11 from the field. Matt McCarthy recorded his first double-double of the season with 18 points, 13 rebounds shooting 9-for-10 from the field. Jimbo Lull recorded 12 points. Frankie Ferrari dished out 10 assists and seven points.
After a sluggish start, the Dons went on a 17-2 run that lasted over seven minutes of play thanks to lock down defense and quick transition buckets. It all started when back-to-back layups were scored from Matt McCarthy and Frankie Ferrari to push the lead to seven, 20-13. During that hot stretch from the Dons, that saw Ratinho hit four of his five first half 3-point field goals, the Dons defense suffocated the Seawolves, holding them to without a field goal for over six and a half minutes.
The second half followed the same script as the first half. Ferrari tallied his seventh assist and the unstoppable play of the night. It began when Renfro blocked a shot while on defense and took off down the court where Ferrari found him in the left lane and made a perfect alley-oop pass for the slam dunk, leading 60-37.
For the night, the Dons shot 47.8 percent going 33-for-69, from 3-point range they were 12-for-33. USF owned a 42-22 advantage in the paint thanks in part to the play by McCarthy and Lull. Capping off the eventful evening was the first career field goal by Nathan Krill and Michael Orlich who both scored in the game's final minutes.
