SAN FRANCISCO -- The University of San Francisco women's team faced UC Davis at the Olympic Club on Saturday, Feb. 18, falling to the Aggies 4-1 in a clinch format.
"We played a much better match today," said USF head coach Peter Bartlett. "I think it was our best performance from a competitive standpoint. We are getting better each match and I think the team is starting to realize what we need to do in order to turn the match in our favor."
Shanna Dos Santos and Margarita Treyes fell 2-6 from the Aggies in the first match of the day. Emily Maxfield and Mya Bui got a match back for the Dons, winning 6-2. The Dons dropped its double point with Alexa Meyer and Anna Sokiran falling in their match, 2-6.
Maxfield scored an important point for the Dons, snagging a 4-6, 6-2 win from the Aggies. Following Maxfield's win was Sokiran, but was beaten in a tough match 6-4, 6-0. Treyes also dropped her match 6-2, 6-4. Meyer put up a fight during her match, securing a win in the first match, but fell in the tiebreaker round 2-6, 6-4, 6-3.
"I think the positive is the team is working hard and is engaged to do better each match they play," Bartlett said. "We'll work on some of the specifics this week to get ready for the next weekend."
With a loss from the Aggies, the Dons are now 1-4 in the season.
