SAN DIEGO, Calif. – In another down-to-the-wire contest, the University of San Francisco women's basketball team took down San Diego, 49-47, Saturday afternoon at the Jenny Craig Pavilion. The win marks the second consecutive game that the Dons (15-14, 10-8) have won by two points after defeating Pacific on Thursday. Most importantly, the game locked up the Dons positioning heading into the West Coast Conference tournament. Official seeding and game information will be released shortly. The Dons got off to an early 13-5 lead in the first quarter, capitalizing on a struggling San Diego team who shot 15.0 percent from the field and zero percent from three-point range on five attempts. The Toreros woke up in the second frame. They scored eight unanswered points to tie the game. Although USD outscored the Dons in the second, USF entered the locker room at half ahead 24-21.
The third frame saw four lead changes and two ties as the teams traded buckets. The Dons had a two-point advantage at 39-37 and would hold on to it in the final quarter, never trailing again.

"Today's game took a lot of mental focus and physical energy to grind out the win. Both teams were probably a little fatigued from tough Thursday games and travel, but I was really pleased with how our group stepped up despite that. They made shots when they needed to and got some critical offensive rebounds down the stretch to help seal the win. I'm very proud of their effort."
GAME NOTES
- Senior guard Kalyn Simon led with 15 points and five rebounds. She shot 50.0 percent from three-point range.
- Shannon Powell added 14 points, eight rebounds, and a game-high five assists.
- Michaela Rakova and (12) Moa Lundqvist (10) each recorded 10-plus boards.
- The Dons had their second-lowest scoring game of the season with 49 points. Previous was 47 in a loss against Gonzaga.
- USF held USD to zero percent shooting from beyond the perimeter.
- The Dons committed the fewest fouls they have all season with five in the contest. Their previous low was seven in a win at Santa Clara.
