Facing the Golden Bears: This will be the 167
th meeting between the two Bay Area rivals, with the Golden Bears holding a 122-44 series record against the Dons. Last season the two teams split their two-game home and home series. USF took the first game of the season against Cal, 7-2. Homers from
Brady Bate and
Ross Puskarich were part of the potent Dons offense on the day. The Golden Bears took the final game of the season series a couple weeks later in a 1-0 pitching duel.
King on the mound: Last time out,
Haydn King went three innings against Fresno State, striking out one and allowing just one run to the Bulldogs. He will take to the mound looking to build off that performance.
Home field advantage: So far this season the Dons have a 5-2 record at home, including a series win over Xavier this past weekend. After dropping the first game, USF won three straight to earn win the series, 3-1. The Dons will look to keep that win streak going as they finish up a season-long home stand over the next week.
Helland on Johnny Bench Award list: Junior
Riley Helland was named to the Johnny Bench Award presented by BaseballSavings.com watch list last week, an annual honor given to the top division one collegiate catcher in the NCAA.
