Dons Open Conference Play Against No. 4 Santa Clara

The University of San Francisco women's soccer team opens conference play on Sunday when No. 4 Santa Clara comes to town.  The Dons and Broncos kick off at 1:00 p.m. at Negoesco Stadium.

WHATS THE STORY
• The Dons enter Sunday with a 7-4-0 record after falling to UC Irvine 3-2 at home on Friday, Sept. 21.   
• USF has two players that currently rank in the top-35 in the nation in eight offensive categories.  Redshirt junior Samantha Jehnings is No. 6 in the nation with nine goals this year while fellow junior Miciah Madison is fifth in the nation in total assists with seven.
•  The Dons are 5-1 at home this season and have outscored their opponents 15-5 at Negoesco Stadium in 2018.  On the year, the Dons are outshooting their opponents 15.2 to 11.4.
 
TOMORROW'S GAME
Santa Clara is ranked No. 4 in the latest United Soccer Coaches Association Poll, their RPI is ranked No. 2 in the nation.  The Broncos are 9-1-1 on the year and boast wins over Cal, North Carolina and Notre Dame and battled No. 1 Stanford to a 1-1 draw.  SCU is outscoring opponents 24-10 on the year and 15-4 during its current six match unbeaten streak.  Four players have scored three or more goals, led by junior forward Maddy Gonzales who has a team leading six goals on the year.
 
SERIES HISTORY
All-time the Broncos own a 32-1-1 record against the Dons in a series that dates back to the 1985 season.  Last season, Santa Clara came away with a 2-0 win at Stevens Stadium down in the South Bay.
 
PROMOTIONS
The first 100 fans to Sunday's game against the Broncos will get a free USF Dons Soccer Scarf courtesy of Evergood Fine Foods.  Kids 12 and under also get free admission to the contest.

UP NEXT
Next weekend, the Dons travel to Southern California to take on conference foes Pepperdine and Loyola Marymount.  USF and Pepperdine square off Friday, Oct. 5 at 3:00 p.m. in Malibu.  On Sunday, the Dons and Lions battle at 1:00 p.m. in Los Angeles.
