WHATS THE STORY
• USF's 8-4-1 start is their second best under head coach
Jim Millinder, the previous best was in 2015 when the Dons started 8-2-3 through the first 13 games. On the road this season, the Dons are 4-1-0 away from Negoesco Stadium, their best road record under Millinder to this point. A win on Saturday would match the Dons best start through 14 games under the Dons eighth year head coach.Â
Â
• Last time out, the Dons fell 1-0 at home to Loyola Marymount. The Dons defense held LMU to just eight shots, three on goal. The Lions finally broke through scoring on a PK in the 56th minute. USF's offense was limited to 10 shots, five on goal.Â
Â
• Responding to a Loss: Following a loss this season, USF is 3-0-0, including 2-0-0 on the road. USF has outscored its opponents 7-3 following a loss.
Miciah Madison and
Samantha Jehnings both have three goals following a Dons losses. Senior keeper
Olivia Camera has been brilliant for the Dons following a loss, going 3-0 with a shutout and 11 saves for a 0.99 goals against average.
Â
• Home Loss: For the second time this season, the Dons took the loss at Negoesco Stadium. Under head coach
Jim Millinder the Dons are 40-19-13 at home good enough for a .646 winning percentage. The only other loss on the home field this year came at the hands of No. 3 Stanford on Sep. 8.
Â
• Power Outage: In the loss to LMU, the Dons duo of
Samantha Jehnings and
Miciah Madison were held to just four shots on the day, two on goal. Interestingly enough, when USF's two senior forwards are held to four or less shots USF is actually 4-3 on the year.Â
Â
• Road Warriors: The Dons are 4-1 on the road this season, by far their best road start under Millinder. USF's four wins this year is already second most under Millinder and their best start through five road contests. The previous best was in 2015 when the Dons started 3-1-1 on the road and finished the season 7-2-1 (their best road record in the Millinder era).Â
Â
• Two PK's is One too Many: In the loss to Loyola Marymount on Wednesday, keeper
Olivia Camera faced just one too many penalty kicks. The senior keeper sent away the Lions first PK late in the first half to preserve a 0-0 tie. Midway through the second half, the Lions second penalty kick was one too many and proved to be the only goal of the game. For the year, Camera has 53 saves ranks 83rd in the nation and leads the WCC. For her career she has 231 saves which is believed to be third all-time at USF.
Â
• Shooters Shoot: USF ranks 17th in the nation in shot percentage, they've taken 141 shots on the year with 78 on goal for a .553 shots on goal percentage. USF makes it count, they are 228th in shots per game, averaging 10.92 per contest but when they do shoot, they put it on goal.
Â
• Jehnings In Historic Company: Senior forward
Samantha Jehnings recorded her 31st career goal in the Dons win over Saint Mary's. She is two shy of tying Kelli Bryant (1992-96) for second all-time. Jehings' goal was also her 11th career game-winning goal, with one more she ties Bryant for the USF record which is 12.Â

SATURDAY'S CONTEST

The Bulldogs have a habit of playing close games in 2019, nine of GU's 12 matches this season have been decided by one goal. They are 6-3 in those games. Gonzaga is seventh in the nation averaging 8.91 shots on goal per game, and 20
th averaging 14.7 shots per contest, they are second in the WCC in both of those categories.
