Dons Begin Spring Schedule at Bruin Wave Invitational

The University of San Francisco women's golf team begins the spring slate of tournaments on Monday when USF travels to San Luis Obispo for the 10th annual Bruin Wave Invitational hosted by Pepperdine and UCLA. Two members of the Dons lineup played in this tournament last year when USF finished in the top-10 after climbing five spots on the leaderboard on the final day.
"We are looking forward to starting our competitive spring season at San Louis Obispo CC at the Bruin-Wave which is hosted by UCLA and Pepperdine," said head coach Sara Doell. "The field is very strong with five top-25 teams in the field including 25th ranked Pepperdine from the WCC."

The Course
The Bruin Wave Invitational will be held at the par-72, 6,323-yard San Luis Obispo Country Club.
The Field
The Dons will complete in a loaded field – of the 15 teams, 10 are ranked in the top-50. Aside from co-hosts Pepperdine and UCLA (ranked No. 25 and No. 5 respectively), USF will square off against No. 3 Stanford, No. 15 Northwestern, No. 16 Arizona State, No. 21 Washington, No. 35 California, No. 36 Oregon, No. 45 Ole Miss, No. 47 San Diego State, as well as UC Irvine, New Mexico and New Mexico State.
The Dons
The Dons lineup will be familiar. Competing for the Dons this tournament will be junior Samantha Gong, sophomores Joan Soewondo and Pearl Rojanapeansatith, and freshmen Annika Borrelli and Jade Siphomsay. This was the Dons' lineup for all five fall tournaments with Gong leading the team with an average score of 74.3.
"This off-season we have spent a lot of time working on short game and on our mental approach with Mental Performance Coach, Yvonne Gomez," added Doell. "The team has been working hard to be the best version of our team by each working both individually and together to strengthen our weaknesses in the gym and on the golf course. I am excited about the progress I am seeing and the passion for the game this team has."
