MGOLF | Better Conditions Lead to Better Scores in Second Round

DAVIS, Calif – With better conditions and a much calmer wind, the scores dropped in the second round of the El Macero Classic. The University of San Francisco men's golf team shot a 4-under 284 on the day and are in sixth place after 36 holes at the UC Davis hosted event.
The Dons posted the third-lowest round of the day with their 4-under 284, and after 36 holes the Dons have a 5-over 581 (297-284). USF has two players in the top-10, led by Soren Lind who was electric in the second round and finished tied the day tied for third. Not far behind Lind was Tim Widing who is tied for sixth.
"Today was more good stuff from the group," said head coach Jack Kennedy. "We took advantage of better conditions. We have put ourselves in position to win a golf tournament, but that will not change our process and mindset tomorrow."
Lind climbed 10 spots in the second round, opening the day going 2-under on the front-9. Thanks to a birdie on 13 and an eagle on 15 he finished with a 3-under 69. For the tournament he has a 2-under 142 (73-69).
Widing also made a big climb on the leaderboard on the second day. He moved up 12 spots on the day finishing with a 3-under 69. He started hot, recording three of his five birdies on the front-9. For the tournament he now has eight birdies, which is tied for ninth most in the tournament. After 36 holes, Widing is 1-under with a 143 (74-69).
After 36 holes Briggs is tied for 24th after shooting an even par 72. Briggs opened the round birdie-birdie and wrapped up the round with a birdie on 18. For the tournament he's got a 2-over 146 (74-72).
Christoffer Palsson cracked the top-40, finishing 39th with a 2-over 74. After starting the round 2-over the front-9 with three bogies, he was flawless on the back-9. For the tournament he's 6-over 150 (76-74).
Fellow freshman Matthew Anderson is tied at 54th with a 36-hole score of 153 (77-76). On Saturday Anderson birdied the first and 18th; he now has three birdies on the tournament.
No. 10 Texas Tech took the lead today after shooting a 14-under 274. For the tournament they are 3-under at 573 (299-274). The co-leaders are Sandy Scott and Ivan Ramirez from Texas Tech, each with a 3-under 141.
