NAPA, Calif. – The University of San Francisco women's golf team capped off the Silverado Showdown with their best round of the tournament. In doing so, the Dons moved up one spot to finish 17th in the most difficult field USF has faced this season at the Oregon and Colorado co-hosted event located at the Silverado Resort and Spa.
The Dons finished the tournament with a 64-over 928 (312-309-307), no team finished under par after three rounds. No. 16 Northwestern took home the team title with a three-day score of 6-over 870. The Dons finished the tournament with eight birdies on the day, giving them 23 for the tournament.
"I'm very happy that we were able to move up the leaderboard in our final round," said assistant coach Devin Dougherty. "We had our best team score for the tournament and that continued improvement is a testament to the resilience of this team. We are not at the level we want to be yet, but playing among the elite teams in this field showed us where we want to go. We will continue to push ourselves and strive for more."
Leading the Dons was junior Samantha Gong who turned in her best round of the tournament, an even par 72, one of just 14 players on the day to shoot par or better in the final round. For the tournament, Gong finished with an 11-over 227 (76-79-72) to finish tied for 42nd.
Annika Borrelli came in second for the Dons, she finished tied for 56th with a 15-over 231 (78-74-79). Ten spots back was Pearl Rojanapeansatith who moved up eight spots on the final day to finish tied for 66th with an 18-over 234 (77-80-77).
Jade Siphomsay finished tied for 79th with a 21-over 237 (82-76-79). Behind her was Joan Soewondo who carded a 26-over 242 (81-82-79) to finish tied at 89th.
The individual champion was Northwestern's Brooke Riley who finished with a 1-under 215 (70-70-75).
This was the Dons' final regular season tournament. They will return to action on Thursday, April 18 when they participate in the WCC Championship at Manito Country Club in Spokane, Wash.
