WHATS THE STORY
• The Dons begin a three-game homestand this week when they host Montana on Friday.  It is their only game of the week.  The following week, the Dons will wrap up non-conference play with home games against Cal State Fullerton (Sep. 27) and UC Davis (Sep. 29).

• USF enters Friday's contest with a 5-3-0 overall record.  The 5-3-0 start is the second best start for the Dons under head coach Jim Millinder.  It is tied for the most wins through the first eight games.  However, six of the first eight games have come on the road with USF going 4-2-0 during that stretch.

• Last time out, USF fell to Northeastern 2-1 in overtime last Sunday in Brookline, Mass.  Samantha Jehnings broke a scoreless tie in the second half with her 30th career goal. An own goal allowed by the Dons tied the match up at 1-1 where it remained until overtime when the Huskies ultimately prevailed with a last minute goal.  Two days prior, the Dons defeated Harvard 3-1 in Cambridge.  Senior Miciah Madison scored a brace in that contest, her third multi-goal game of her career and second of the 2019 season.

• Dynamic Duo: USF's senior forwards Madison and Jehnings are proving to be a lethal 1-2 combo.  The two have scored 11 of the Dons' 16 goals. Jehnings has six on the year, with Madison sending five in the back of the net. For their careers, Jehnings has 30 career goals, with Madison scoring 14.

More on Jehnings and Madison: This past weekend, Madison notched her 45th career point which places her in a tie for 10th all-time in career points at USF.  With Madison cracking the top-10, the Dons have two active players in the career top-10 for points for the first time since 1994 when Kelli Bryant and Shelli Silva both suited up for the Dons.  Jehnings is fourth all-time with 66 points.

• Road Tested: The Dons 4-2-0 record way from Negoesco Stadium already matches their second-best win total on the road under Jim Milliner.  The Dons 7-2-1 mark in 2015 is the best road performance.

• Notable Numbers:  Jehnings ranks 25th in the nation with her six goals, while Madison is 44th with her five.  Keeper Olivia Camera is 37th in the nation with her 39 saves. Camera's 39 saves and 4.75 saves per game both lead all keepers in the WCC.

•Camera earned the cleansheet in the win over the Highlanders Sep. 5, giving her three shutouts on the year and nine for her career. The three shutouts this season is already tied for a career-high for Camera.

• Shooters Shoot: USF ranks 18th in the nation in shot percentage, they've taken 74 shots on the year with 44 on goal for a .595 shots on goal percentage.  Madison is a big reason for that, the senior is 13th in the nation in shot accuracy. 13 of her 18 shots have been on goal for a .722 shots on goal percentage.

• Jehnings In Historic Company:  Jehnings recorded her 30th career goal in the loss to Northeastern last Sunday.  The 30 goals makes her one of three payers in USF history to eclipse the 30 career goal plateau. First all-time is Shanna Haines (1986-89) with 42 career goals.  In second is Kellie Bryant (1992-95) who scored 33.  The two players ahead of Jehnings are members of the University of San Francisco Hall of Fame.

• Lights Out in the First Half:  Last week in Boston, the Dons once again kept their opponents off the scoreboard in the first half.  USF has done that in seven of their eight contests so far and are now 6-2 when they don't allow a first half goal. Northeastern joins No. 5 USC as the only teams to get a win against the Dons when being shutout in the first half.

FRIDAY'S CONTEST
Montana, which has no seniors on its roster, returns seven starters from a team that won the Big Sky Conference tournament as the No. 5 seed in November and advanced to the program's fourth NCAA tournament. Junior goalkeeper Claire Howard and junior midfielder Kennedy Yost were both voted honorable mention All-Big Sky last season. Twelve of the team's 27 players are newcomers (one transfer, 11 freshmen).  In 2019, the Grizzlies have had trouble putting the ball in the back of the net, scoring just three goals in seven contests.  Alexa Coyle, Kendra Furrow, and McKenzie Kilpatrick have all scored one goal this season for Montana.

SERIES HISTORY
Friday marks the third time these two teams have faced each other.  USF owns a 2-0 advantage in the series that dates back to Nov. 1, 1996 when the Dons defeated Montana 1-0.  The last time these two teams squared off was last year in Missoula when USF beat the Grizzlies 2-0 on Aug. 18, 2018 when Samantha Jehnings scored a brace.
