LAST TIME OUT:
  • Playing in their first true road match of the season, the Dons blanked San Jose State, 2-0, last Thursday, Aug. 26 to record their first official win of the fall season. Notably, it was USF's eleventh win over the Spartans in their last fourteen meetings dating back to 2001, with the two teams having tied in the other three contests.
  • In the victory, Marissa Vasquez and Gabby Rizzo both found the back of the net in the first half as the Dons took the early lead and never looked back. Overall, USF outshout SJSU 16-6, including a 6-3 advantage in shots on goal. In the cage, Molly Eby denied all three of the Spartan attacks to earn her first shutout of the year.
SCOUTING THE BEARS:
  • Cal will host the Dons in their second game of a three-game home stand on Thursday after reaching a 1-1 tie with Saint Mary's in a double overtime contest on Sunday, Aug. 29. Prior to their matchup with the Gaels, the Golden Bears recorded a 2-0 shutout win at Portland on Friday, Aug. 27.
  • As a group, the Bears present a well-balanced attack as 25 different players have seen time on the pitch so far this season. Notably, seven different student-athletes have scored for Cal, with six players having tallied an assist and twelve players having logged points.
  • This past offseason, Cal welcomed the No. 1 recruiting class in the country to Berkeley, with 14 new student-athletes joining the fold this fall. Of the 13 national recruits, 11 were ranked in the top-200 while eight athletes had national team experience prior to their journey to Cal.
  • Prior to completion, two Bears were named in the top 100 Division I women's soccer players by TopDrawerSoccer: defender Emily Smith (55) and goalkeeper Angelina Anderson (83)
SERIES HISTORY:
  • Overall, the Bears hold a 17-4-2 all-time record against USF, including a 12-1-0 mark at home in Berkeley. Although Cal has won seven straight home matches, the Dons were victorious in the last meeting between the two programs, having taken down the Bears, 1-0, at Negoesco Stadium on Aug. 25, 2017.
