DONS AT A GLANCE:
- Remaining perfect on their home turf, USF used a strong defensive showing to record a 3-0 win over UCSD on Sunday, Sept. 12. Overall, it was the Dons' third shutout of the season and their second straight blank sheet at Negoesco Stadium.
- Displaying her talents, Molly Eby has proven to be one of the top goalkeepers in the West Coast Conference as she currently leads the WCC in total saves (31) and save percentage (.886). Last week, Eby delivered a phenomenal performance at No. 11 Stanford as she racked up a new career-high with 13 saves.
- Individually, six different athletes have scored so far for the Dons this fall: Sydney Cooper (2), Kenna Roth (2), Marissa Vasquez, Samantha Curwood-Wagner, Kalena Teufel and Gabby Rizzo. Additionally, five different players have logged assists for USF: Vasuqez (2), Curwood-Wagner, Teufel, Elle Soleau and Jamesen Ward.
SCOUTING THE MUSTANGS:
- Checking in at No. 24 in the United Soccer Coaches Poll, SMU has only tallied one loss so far this season- falling in overtime at Baylor. Notably, the Mustangs have wins over two teams receiving votes in the top-25 (Oklahoma State, Rice).
- Last time out, the Mustangs were victorious on the road at Rice, 1-0, when Courtney Sebazco converted on a penalty kick in the 79th minute. Before coming out due to injury, goalkeeper Tatum Sutherland had tallied five saves in 70 minutes. Samantha Estrada would come on to finish the shutout as she collected three saves in the final 20 minutes of action.
- Using a total team effort to propel themselves up the rankings, SMU has scored at least once in all five of their matches so far this season, with five different players having seven assists on eight goals by six different Mustangs.
SCOUTING THE BEARS:
- In their last time on the pitch, Baylor came from down 2-0 against Oregon to rally and force a double overtime tie. After a goal from Elizabeth Kooiman trimmed the Bears deficit in half, Baylor evened the match on a penalty kick goal from Chloe Japic with just two seconds remaining in regulation.
- Impressively, the Bears have not lost since Aug. 26 against Nebraska, having tallied two wins and two draws in their last four matches.
- Recently, Jennifer Wandt was named Big 12 Goalkeeper of the Week for the second time this season, marking the seventh time in her career she has earned weekly honors. Notably, these seven awards serve as the most in program history.
SERIES HISTORY:
- Set for just their second matchup all-time, SMU previously defeated USF in overtime, 2-1, in a neutral site meeting on Oct. 8, 1995 in Moraga, Calif.
- For Baylor, Sunday's contest will mark the first time in program history that the Dons will face the Bears.
