Clutch Plays Propel Dons Past Broncos

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. -- Meeting for the second time in three days, the USF Dons women's basketball team (7-10, 1-4) and Santa Clara Broncos (8-5, 2-1) battled until the final minute of the game with the hometown Dons coming away with the 67-60 victory on Monday night.
Amalie Langer had two huge buckets late in the fourth quarter to extend USF's lead and delight the crowd at War Memorial at the Sobrato Center. The Dons defense held tough throughout making life difficult on the Broncos offense by limiting them to 33% shooting from the field and forcing 18 turnovers.

USF now looks forward to welcoming the Pacific Tigers (3-10, 0-2) to War Memorial Thursday evening at 6:00 p.m. The Dons and Tigers split both of their meetings a season ago with the home team coming out on top both times.

- The Dons got off to a quick start on their home floor Monday night as they ended the first 10 minutes of play was a 16-12 lead over Santa Clara.
- Both teams got their offenses going more in the second quarter, with each side scoring 19 points allowing the Dons to take a 35-31 lead into halftime.
- Santa Clara stepped up their defensive intensity for the third quarter to cut the Dons led to two points heading into the final quarter.
- After the Broncos took a momentary one point lead, the Dons offense was sparked by Langer's two buckets and didn't allow another Santa Clara field goal for the final 4:28 of game action.
- Ioanna Krimili led both teams by scoring 16 points on 5-of-12 shooting to go along with five rebounds and two assists.
- Claudia Langarita finished with 14 points off the bench on 6-of-10 shooting as well as three rebounds and an assist.
- Kennedy Dickie making her third start of the season was an impactful player on the interior scoring 10 points and grabbing six boards.
- Jessica McDowell-White made three big threes and dished out a team-high six assists scoring nine points for the Dons in the win.
- Jasmine Gayles didn't have her typical big scoring night, but grabbed seven big rebounds to lead USF while scoring seven points as well.
