Women's Basketball Welcomes Pacific, LMU to the Hilltop

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. -- Following their first victory of the conference season, the USF Dons women's basketball team (7-10, 1-4) is back in action at War Memorial at the Sobrato Center this week as they welcome the Pacific Tigers (3-10, 0-2) and the Loyola Marymount Lions to the Hilltop.

USF is fresh off a 67-60 victory over Santa Clara at home as the Dons defense was stellar throughout limiting the potent Bronco offense to a 33% shooting percentage in route to the win. The Dons split with the Tigers in their two matchups last season, with each school winning on their home floor. While the Lions and USF also split their season series during the 2020-21 season, with the road team coming out victorious both times.

DONS RETURN TO FORM:
  • USF improved their home record to 4-1 so far this season after Monday's win over Santa Clara. Playing three of their first five WCC games away from War Memorial will provide the Dons with many key home games later in conference play.
  • Ioanna Krimili led both teams Monday evening with 16 points in the win as she's averaged 17 PPG on 43% shooting from the field after missing the first two games of league play.
  • Amalie Langer came up huge in the win over the Broncos as she made two huge layups in the final minute of play to extend the USF lead and secure the Dons first conference victory in the process.
  • Jasmine Gayles has continued her torrid start to conference play, as the first Don off the bench she's averaged 18.0 PPG and 5.8 rebounds per game as she secured a team-high seven rebounds in Monday's win.
  • Claudia Langarita has stepped up in a big way in her first college basketball season, she's averaged 11.8 PPG on an efficient 46% shooting percentage to go along with 3.8 rebounds per game in conference play.
  • Jessica McDowell-White's passing has been fantastic in conference action as she's leading the Dons' offensive attack by dishing out 5.2 assists per game to start WCC play.
SCOUTING THE TIGERS:
  • The Tigers have gotten off to a slow start to conference play as they lost their first two games against BYU and Gonzaga, prior to entering a COVID-19 protocol related pause.
  • Freshman guard Anaya James has been UOP's leading scorer so far this season at 15.3 PPG while shooting 47% from the field. USF will need to account for her on the perimeter as she's shooting an impressive 40% from three-point range.
  • Fellow freshman center Elizabeth Elliott is also off to a great start in her college career, as the Tigers' second leading scorer at 12.6 PPG, she leads Pacific in rebounds per game with 5.8 per contest this season.
  • UOP's allowed the most points per game in the conference so far this season, and the Dons' offense will look to take advantage where they can.
SCOUTING THE LIONS:
  • It's been a tough start to conference play for LMU as they had their first four games postponed, before they dropped first three WCC games to sit at the bottom of the conference standings.
  • Leading the Lions' offense is senior guard Ariel Johnson who's averaged 13.5 PPG this season on 44% shooting from the field, and 36% from three-point range this season.
  • Sophomore guard Nicole Rodriguez, is LMU's second leading scorer at 9.5 PPG while shooting 45% from the field at 37% from three.
  • The Lions enter Saturday's game with the lowest field goal percentage in the conference as the Dons defense will try to make things even more difficult for LMU's offense.
