SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. -- Returning to their home pitch, the USF Dons women's soccer team (5-5-5, 0-3-2) battled hard on Wednesday night as they picked up their second consecutive draw in a 1-1 final score against the Pacific Tigers at Negoesco Stadium.
Trailing 1-0 at the break, the Dons were able to fight back into the contest in the second half as
Kaylin Lunsford scored her fourth goal of the year off an assist from
Jamesen Ward to even the score as USF came away with their fifth draw of the 2022 season.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:
- Both USF and Pacific had opportunities to score early in the contest with both teams coming up short before the Tigers broke through with the opening goal at the 25 minute mark to take the 1-0 lead.
- The score would remain the same at halftime as the Dons recorded five shots in the first half to trail by a goal.
- USF came out of the break aggressive from the kickoff as they went on the offensive attack and scored the match tying goal at the 57 minute mark as Lunsford found the back of the net off Ward's assist.
- Neither side was able to come away with the go-ahead goal the rest of the way as USF earned their second consecutive draw.
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:
- Lunsford continued her strong season by scoring her fourth goal of the year as she's now second on the Dons in total goals scored in 2022.
- After scoring USF's lone goal last Saturday at Pepperdine, Ward followed up that performance by setting up Lunsford's goal to earn her first goal of the season.
- Kira Ybarra made her fourth consecutive start in goal for the Dons as she recorded three saves and allowed just one goal for the second consecutive match.
