DAVIS, Calif. -- With the first weekend of the 2022 college baseball season come on gone, the USF Dons baseball team (1-2) is back in action this Tuesday Feb. 22 at 2:00 p.m. as they will travel north to take on the UC Davis Aggies (0-3). Tuesday's game will be a standalone matchup prior to the Dons returning home to Benedetti Diamond this weekend to take on Utah Valley.
The Dons battled tough against the No. 17 UC Santa Barbara Gauchos over the weekend at Benedetti Diamond dropping two of the three games in the series to a strong opponent. USF received some strong early season performances from their starting pitchers allowing a combined four earned runs across 13 2/3 innings pitched, while
Gabe Giosso wasted no time adjusting to playing on the Hilltop as he collected three hits including a home run while leading the team with three RBI so far.

THINGS TO KNOW:
- Tuesday's game will be the first meeting between the Dons and Aggies since the 2020 season, when USF defeated Davis 6-0 at Benedetti Diamond. Outfielder Darius Foster had a great day at the plate in that game as he reached base three times with a hit and two walks and an RBI and run scored.
- Giosso has taken no time to establish himself as a presence in the USF order as he's leading the team through three games with a .500 batting average and a sky-high 1.571 OPS early on in the 2022 season.
- Leadoff hitter Jordan Vujovich has taken little time to establish himself as one of the most patient hitters in the WCC with his .500 on-base percentage and team-leading four walks drawn this season.
- Right-hander Riley Ornido provided the early season highlight for the Dons on the mound as he returned from Tommy John surgery and recorded his first collegiate save as he will be working in a relief role to start the season.
SCOUTING THE AGGIES:
- UC Davis got off to a slow start to their season, as they were swept in a three-game series by Saint Mary's with two games in Davis and the series finale in Moraga.
- Redshirt sophomore infielder Jonah Hendrickson had a nice start to his season against the Gaels, as he led his team with a .333 batting average hitting a home run and a double for the Aggies in their first series of the year.
- Sophomore right-hander Nate Freeman had a solid first start pitching Opening Day for his squad going five innings and allowing two runs in their season opener.
- The Aggies were picked to finish at the bottom of the Big West conference heading into the season with a No. 11 overall ranking in their conference.
