THINGS TO KNOW:
  • Tuesday's matchup with the Spartans will be the first meeting between the two programs since last season, when USF swept SJSU in two non-consecutive games winning both on the Hilltop and in San Jose.
  • Saint John's will be making their first trip to the Hilltop in program history, as Thursday afternoon will be the first ever matchup between the Dons and the Red Storm.
  • USF put together a great week with complete team performances as the offense hit enough and the pitching staff shined to win four of the five games they played.
  • Luke Keaschall, Jordan Vujovich and Gabe Giosso all have gotten off to stellar starts to their 2022 seasons by posting on-base plus slugging percentage numbers north of 1.000.
  • While on the mound, staff ace Owen Stevenson has allowed just one earned run across 11 innings pitched for a stellar 0.82 ERA to begin his season.
SCOUTING THE SPARTANS:
  • SJSU is off to a 5-3 start to the season as they took 3 of 4 from Nebraska-Omaha, defeated Northern Colorado and dropped a three-game series to fellow WCC opponent Portland at home over the weekend.
  • Outfielder Robert Hamchuk has gotten off to a fantastic start to his season with a .400 batting average and two home runs and five RBI early in the season for the Spartans.
  • The Dons will face Spartan right-hander Aaron Eden on Tuesday afternoon, as he will be making his third start so far in the early portion of the season. Eden hasn't had a particularly strong start to his season with a .310 opponents batting average and allowing five earned runs in eight innings pitched.
  • USF will also need to be aware of utility player Charles McAdoo at the top of San Jose State's batting order, as he has posted a .344 batting average and leads his team with three stolen bases so far.
SCOUTING THE RED STORM:
  • The Red Storm will be continuing their west coast swing as they will venture south from Eugene, Ore. to take on the Dons this weekend for a four game series, which will mark the first time both programs have matched up on the diamond.
  • It's been a tough start to the season for St. John's as they split a two game series with Middle Tennessee, were swept by UNC Wilmington and have dropped three of their first four games against the Oregon Ducks.
  • Outfielder David Glancy has started the first seven games of the season for the Red Storm and has performed well in the batter's box hitting .385 while getting on-base at an astounding .500 mark.
  • On the mound, right-hander Ian Murphy has had the most success for St. John's as he's made two starts for a 0-1 record and a 5.73 ERA allowing seven earned runs in 11 innings pitched this season.
