DONS AT A GLANCE:
- USF enters the postseason riding high on a four-game winning streak as they wrapped up their regular season schedule with a home sweep over the Pacific Tigers. The series finale victory on Sunday guaranteed the Dons a 20-win season at Benedetti Diamond and a fourth consecutive season with a winning conference record.
- Key parts of the Dons success were honored by the West Coast Conference for their stellar play: Luke Keaschall made the All-WCC first team, Adam Shew was selected for the All-WCC Freshman team and the trio of Mario DeMera, Brandon Greim and Harris Williams III all were picked for as All-WCC Honorable Mentions.
- As a team, the USF offense was explosive as they ranked tied for second in team home runs, led the league in doubles, tied were fourth in triples and led the rest of the conference in stolen bases as their team speed put pressure on opposing pitching staffs and defenses.
- On the mound the Dons are led by a group of veteran starters in Jonah Jenkins, Riley Ornido and Jesse Barron who have each shined at various points of the season heading into the conference tournament as USF will attempt to slow the potent Torero batting order.
SCOUTING THE TOREROS:
- Wednesday's contest will mark the fourth meeting between the two sides this season as USF was able to take two of three from USD at home the first weekend in April. The Dons were able to secure the series in thrilling fashion as Zach Freeman belted a two-run home run to right.
- San Diego's lineup is headlined by the 2022 WCC Player of the Year in catcher Caleb Ricketts who caught in all 49 of USD's games this season and hit .357 while being tied for the team with 11 home runs and outright leading the Toreros with 49 RBI.
- Leading the way on the mound for USD is right-hander Garrett Rennie who made 10 starts and posted a 3.77 ERA to lead the Torero starters. Facing the Dons earlier this season in the Friday start, he picked up the win allowing three earned runs in five innings of work.
