Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Dons, Lions Draw After Full Time

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. - Suiting up for their third conference matchup this season, the University of San Francisco women's soccer team (4-6-3, 1-1-1 WCC) finished in a 1-1 draw in a battle against LMU (6-6-2, 0-1-2 WCC) on Saturday night at Negoesco Stadium.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:
  • Getting the first attempt of the evening on the books, Gabby Rizzo ripped her first attempt of the night at the 7:00 mark, but ultimately was wide right as the match remained scoreless to start.
  • After missing last game due to an illness, Marissa Vasquez returned in a big way and got the scoring started in the minutes to follow as the midfielder buried an absolute screamer into the top left corner of the cage off an assist from Rizzo at 13:42 to give San Francisco a 1-0 advantage.
  • Following a shot attempt from Alex Carpio in the 34th minute, the Dons remained in control heading into the halftime break, 1-0.
  • Shortly out of the locker room, LMU evened things up as Alex Hobbs found Kylie Dobbs at 48:12 to help the Lions knot the score at 1-1.
  • Throughout the test of the half, San Francisco would outshoot LMU 8-0 as the Lions lone shot of the second half came on the goal from Dobbs. For the Dons, Jackie Koerwitz, Lindsey Chau and Ellie Weissenberg would each attempt to find the go-ahead goal in addition to a handful of shots from Vasquez once again.
  • Although the green and gold had their chances down the stretch, USF could not sneak a second strike past the opposing keeper as the match finished in a hard-fought 1-1 draw after the full 90 minutes.
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:
  • With her goal on Saturday, Vasquez is now tied with Alex Carpio for the team lead with four goals this fall.
  • Overall, Vasquez tallied five shots against the Lions, which ties her season-high. Notably, the senior also fired five shots in San Francisco's 5-2 road win at UC Riverside on Sept. 10.
  • Defensively, the green and gold limited their opponents to a season-low two shots total and one shot on goal.
POSTGAME WITH THE DONS: UP NEXT:
With just three days of rest until their next matchup, San Francisco will aim to repeat their magic from earlier this year when the Dons travel to Santa Clara for a 7:00 pm matchup at Stevens Stadium this upcoming Wednesday, Oct. 18. Live streaming and live statistics will be available via the team's schedule page.
