Dons Fall to San Diego at Home

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – The University of San Francisco volleyball team (8-11, 2-5) fell in straight sets, 3-0, to San Diego (10-7, 6-1) Saturday afternoon at War Memorial at the Sobrato Center.

San Francisco returns to action at 6 p.m. on Thursday, October 19, when it travels to take on Santa Clara in a West Coast Conference contest at Leavey Center.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:
- San Diego opened the first set fast, winning seven of the first nine points. Trailing 7-2, San Francisco scored five of the following seven points to cut the deficit to three, 11-8. Maria Petkova, Aylen Ayub, and Kennedy Muckelroy sparked the rally, tallying kills throughout the scoring run.
- Quickly extending the advantage to eight, the Toreros used a 6-1 run and led 17-9 midway through the frame. The two teams exchanged points throughout the later stages of the set, with the Toreros coming out on top, 25-17.
- Holding firm at the start of the second set, the Dons went back and forth with the Toreros as the teams split the first six points.
- The set remained close midway through, with the Toreros holding a three-point advantage, 13-10. A 7-3 run ensued for the Toreros shortly after, pushing the lead to seven, 20-13 and won five of the final eight points to secure the set.
- The Toreros held a 12-10 advantage midway through in a back-and-forth third frame. The Dons used a 5-2 scoring run, highlighted by three straight kills from Crystal Galaviz, to grab the lead, 15-14. The Toreros, however, held composure and held on for the 25-21 third-set win.
- Galaviz led the team in kills for the second straight match, tallying nine throughout the three-set affair. Galaviz added a .286 hitting percentage and one solo block.
- Muckelroy rerecorded a stellar .316 hitting percentage, tallying eight kills on 19 attempts.
- Analiese Gagliano and Abby Wadas led the team defensively with seven digs apiece, while Lindsay Oldendorf added two blocks.
San Francisco returns to action at 6 p.m. on Thursday, October 19, when it travels to take on Santa Clara in a West Coast Conference contest at Leavey Center.
