PORTLAND, Ore. – The University of San Francisco volleyball team (9-13, 3-7) dropped a five-set match to Portland, falling 3-2 Thursday evening at Chiles Center.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:
- In a highly contested opening set, the Dons kept the frame close, only trailing by one, 16-15, midway through. Lindsay Oldendorf led the team offensively, recording three kills.
- Trailing 23-21 late in the frame, Maria Petkova tallied her second kill of the set to cut the deficit to one. The Pilots, however, won the final two points to secure the first set, 25-22.
- Portland overpowered San Francisco in the second set, gaining an advantage of 20-8. The Dons responded with a late 8-2, cutting the deficit to six, but failed to regain the lead and dropped the set 25-19.
- Looking to end the game quickly in the third set, the Pilots went up 6-0, but the Dons fought back with a six-point scoring run to tie the set at seven. Staying on the front foot, San Francisco recorded another significant five-point scoring run to take the lead shortly after, 15-10. Kennedy Muckelroy secured the set with a final kill for the Dons, winning the third set, 25-20.
- Portland kicked off the fourth set and gained an early 10-5 advantage. The Dons came back with an 8-3 scoring run, highlighted by a Goodman service ace and a kill from Oldendorf, leveling the set at 16. In a close last few points, Petkova recorded a kill to bring the frame to match point, and San Francisco took the fourth set 27-25.
- In the deciding set, the two teams exchanged points, with San Francisco going on a 5-1 scoring run to level the frame at 10. However, the Pilots won five of the final six points, securing the match 15-11.
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:
- Muckelroy had a team-high of 12 kills and 14.5 points throughout the match.
- Recording six block assists, Oldendorf led both teams in total blocks. On the offensive side of the ball, she tallied nine kills on 18 attempts for an impressive kill percentage of .500.
- Defensively, Ezgi Ozkan recorded a season-high 17 digs, the second time this season reaching double-digit digs.
