Women’s Soccer Heads to Portland, Seeks Third Consecutive Victory

PORTLAND, Ore. – After a shutout victory on the Hilltop against San Diego, the University of San Francisco women's soccer team (6-6-3, 3-1-1) heads north to face Portland (9-3-2, 3-2 WCC) on at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 28, looking to extend its current win streak to a season-high three games.

DONS AT A GLANCE:

  • In its last match this past Saturday, San Francisco picked up its sixth shutout victory of the season in a 3-0 win over San Diego. Lindsey Chau, Jackie Koerwitz, and Konstantina Konidaris each found the back of the net to propel the green and gold to its second consecutive victory.
  • On Monday, Kira Ybarra earned WCC Defensive Player of the Week honors after recording 10 saves while holding opponents scoreless across the Dons' two shutout victories last week.
  • In conference play, Marissa Vasquez ranks in the top five in the conference in total shots (second), shots on goal (fourth), and goals (third). Kira Ybarra ranks in the top three in the WCC in goals-against-average (third) and saves (second) in conference play.

SCOUTING THE PILOTS:

  • Portland returns home looking to avenge a 3-1 loss at Pepperdine this past weekend. Senior forward Nedya Sawan scored the lone goal in the match for the Pilots.
  • Sawan ranks in the top 10 in the WCC in total shots (fifth), shots on goal (ninth), and goals (eighth) in conference play.
  • In goal, Bre Norris has shined for Portland, ranking first in the WCC in goals-against-average (.500), saves (33), and shutouts per game (.714) in conference play.

SERIES HISTORY:

  • Dating back to 1986, Portland has held the Dons to only four victories, with San Francisco posting an overall 4-30-2 record against the Pilots. The green and gold won the previous match between the two teams in a 1-0 victory last season on the Hilltop.
