SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The University of San Francisco volleyball team (10-15, 4-9) dropped its Thursday night match against San Diego (15-9, 11-3), falling 3-0, at the Jenny Craig Pavilion.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:Â
- Maria Petkova recorded the first kill in set one for the Dons before the Toreros quickly pulled ahead to an 8-4 lead. The Dons battled back shortly after, tying the frame at 12 with a kill from Petkova. The Toreros took advantage and pulled away, using a 9-2 run to take a 21-14. Unable to close the deficit, the Dons dropped the first set 25-18.
- Exchanging points at the start of the second set, San Francisco went on a four-point scoring run to come from behind to take an 11-10 lead with one kill and two serving aces from Petkova. Responding with a 10-1 scoring run, San Diego took the lead and edged out the Dons to take the second set, 25-19.
- The green and gold took the first three points in the final set with two aces from Hayden Goodman. Holding their advantage, the Dons went up 9-5 with two straight kills from Lana Kutakhina. San Diego fought to tie the set at 19 and ultimately took the frame in the last few points to win, 25-21.
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:
- Petkova led the team in kills and points, recording nine kills and 11.5 points.
- Kutakhina recorded a .500 hitting percentage while tallying five kills on seven attempts.
- As a team, San Francisco recorded 10 service aces from five players in tonight's match, marking the second time the Dons have reached double-digit aces this season.Â

San Francisco will be back in action when it takes on Loyola Marymount on Saturday, Nov. 11, at 1 pm in Los Angeles at Gersten Pavilion.
