Dons Hit the Road to End the Regular Season at Pepperdine & LMU

MALIBU/LOS ANGELES, Calif. - Coming off of a successful sweep of last week's games, the University of San Francisco Dons women's basketball team (18-10, 8-8) are back in action on the road for their final games of conference play. They first will head to Malibu to face the Pepperdine Waves (8-18, 3-13) on Thursday, Feb. 23 at 6:00 p.m. at Firestone Fieldhouse. Following that matchup, they will play Loyola Marymount Lions (7-20, 4-12) on Saturday, Feb. 25 at 4:00 p.m. in Gersten Pavilion. 

In the Dons last outing on Saturday, Feb.18, three seniors scored double digits in points to lead to the team's win against BYU. Jessica McDowell-White led the charge with 19 points and went 5-for-6 on three pointer shots. Ioanna Krimili followed close behind with 18 points and five assists. Additionally, Jasmine Gayles scored 12 points putting away 7-of-8 free throws for the Dons.

DONS AT A GLANCE: 

  • After scoring 31 points against USD in Thursday's win, Ioanna Krimili was named WCC Player of the Week for the third time this season. She leads the WCC, sitting in first place for points per game with an average of 18.3. In addition to that stat, she also has a 41.6% scoring average for three pointers, placing her in fifth place in the conference. 
  • Kennedy Dickie logged another double-double by scoring 10 points and logging 11 rebounds against USD on 2/16 which led her to hit a milestone of 1,000 career points. She also has successfully stayed on the WCC leader board in fourth place for consecutive weeks in rebounds per game as she is averaging 7.8. 
  • As a team, the Dons have been dominating defensively as they are second in the conference for defensive rebounds with an average of 26.6 per game and they sit at third for overall rebounds per game with an average of 38. 
SCOUTING THE WAVES:
  • With a season record of 3-13, Pepperdine sits in last place in the conference. Most recently, they fell short by just five points against LMU last Saturday as KK Broddie put up a career high of 18 points, and Marly Walls scored 17 points to make it a tight game.
  • Sophomore Ally Stedman has been a sharp shooter for Pepperdine as she leads the team in three pointers with 48 total while shooting 34.5% from beyond the arc. She's recorded second most points on the team with 296 on the year. 
  • For the Waves defensively, junior Jane Nwaba and redshirt senior Becky Obinma both lead the team in total rebounds with 150. Obinwa has 97 defensive rebounds and Nwaba recorded 83 on the year. Against LMU in their last time out, Nwaba recorded 11 rebounds marking the third time she's recorded double digits this season.
 SCOUTING THE LIONS: 
  • Coming off of their win against Pepperdine on 2/18, the Lions currently rank in ninth place in the conference with a record of 4-12. Outplaying them in stats, LMU recorded .478 field goal percentage to best the Waves 76-71.
  • High scorers for the Lions this season have been Alexis Mark, and Ariel Johnson as they lead the team in points, Mark with 303 and Johnson with 261 on the season. Against Pepperdine on 2/18 both players scored 18 points to help their team secure the victory.
  • As a team, the Lions place third in the WCC in free throw percentage at 74.2% from the charity stripe. Additionally, they are tied for fourth place in steals with an average of 7.7 on the season.
