SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – Increasing its winning streak to four, the University of San Francisco volleyball team (7-6, 1-0) powered past Gonzaga (3-9, 0-1), earning a 3-0 victory Thursday evening in a West Coast Conference contest at War Memorial at the Sobrato Center.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:
- The Dons wasted no time taking control of the first set, winning the first seven points to take a commanding 7-0 lead. Another 7-0 run shortly after solidified the frame as the Dons, led by offensive production from Aylen Ayub, Karolina Nova, Annaliese Gagliano, and Lindsay Oldendorf, gave the green and gold a 15-3 advantage.
- The Dons quickly secured the frame with a 10-6 run, holding the Bulldogs to nine points.
- The Bulldogs gained an advantage in the second set, pushing its lead to seven, 17-10, midway through the frame. The Dons swiftly recovered, using a 9-0 scoring run to take the lead, 19-17.
- After Gonzaga cut the lead to one, 19-18, with two straight kills from Maria Petkova and a Bulldog attack error, San Francisco extended its lead to 22-18. Winning three of the final four points, the Dons grabbed a two-set lead, earning a 25-21 second-set win.
- The Dons pulled ahead late in a tightly contested third set to earn the match sweep. With the frame tied at 17, an Ayub service ace and two kills from Kennedy Muckelroy gave the Dons the lead and later used a 5-0 run to secure the match win, 25-19.
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:
- Muckelroy led the Dons offensive, accumulating 11 kills and a .384 hitting percentage. Recording her fourth match this season with double-digit kills, Muckelroy ranks fourth on the team with 91 total kills. Muckelroy also added four block assists while contributing on the defensive of the ball.
- Tying her season high in service aces, Nova recorded two throughout the match, leading the team.
- Petkova added nine kills for the Dons and led the team with 14 digs.
- Oldendorf led the front line, accumulating five blocks, five kills, and a stellar .556 hitting percentage.
