Box Score SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. - Dominating from the start, the University of San Francisco women's soccer team (5-8-2, 1-4-2 WCC) got back in the win column on Sunday afternoon with a commanding 3-0 victory over Pacific (2-14-1, 0-7 WCC) at Negoesco Stadium.
Notably, the win also marked the first-career West Coast Conference win for head coach
Pinder Nijjar.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:
- Quick to fire, Gabby Rizzo wasted no time trying to put San Francisco on the board, logging the first shot of the match 49 seconds in.
- In the seventh minute, Kiana Faucette drove down the left side of the pitch and used her left foot to rocket her first collegiate goal into the back of the net to give the Dons an early 1-0 lead.
- Ellie Weissenberg looked to double the green and gold's advantage with a shot on goal in the 14th minute that was saved by Pacific's Hannah McFarlane.
- Faucette came close to her first career brace in the 27th minute with a shot on goal, the third of the match for San Francisco, but the freshman was ultimately denied by McFarlane.
- Doubling up the Tigers, Kate Zimmerman found Isabella Ayau on the attack, who then set up Olivia Lukrofka for her second goal of the season in the 29th minute to extend the USF advantage to 2-0.
- Off a free kick in the 38th minute, Lukrofka nearly notched a brace herself, with her second shot of the match hitting the crossbar.
- Shortly after, Ayau logged her first shot in the 41st minute, the fifth shot on goal for the Dons in the first half.
- Limiting Pacific to just one shot in the first 45 minutes, which was saved by Kira Ybarra, San Francisco went into the locker room with a 2-0 lead at the half.
- Opening the second half, Lindsey Chau immediately looked to add to the San Francisco lead with three shots on goal in the first five minutes of the second period, firing away in the 46th, 47th and 50th minutes.
- Adding onto the advantage, Isabella Ayau went on to score her first goal of the season in the 53rd minute to boost the green and gold's lead to 3-0.
- Following Ayau's goal, Pacific outshot San Francisco 11-3 in the final 37 minutes of the match, but the Tigers were unable to find the back of the net as the Dons secured a 3-0 shutout victory over the Tigers on Sunday afternoon.
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:
- In just the fourth match of her collegiate career, Faucette netted the first goal of her young career on just the third shot of the season for the freshman.
- Contributing off the Lukrofka notched her second goal of the season and the third of her career. Isabella Ayau and Kate Zimmerman set up Lukrofka for the goal, marking the first career assists for both Ayau and Zimmerman.
- Filling the stat sheet, Ayau scored her first career goal in the best match of her collegiate career as the sophomore tallied one goal, one assist and a game-high and career-best four shots, which included two shots on goal.
- Quick on the offensive attack in the second half, Chau tied a career-high three shots on goal in the match, with all her shots coming in the first five minutes of the second period. Chau's three-shot performance against Pacific marks the third time in the last four games that the junior has tallied 3 or more shots in a match.
