Dons Fall to Lions on the Road

LOS ANGELES, Calif. – The University of San Francisco volleyball team (14-11, 7-6 WCC) dropped its first contest of the a two-match road trip, falling to LMU (20-4, 11-1 WCC) 3-0 Thursday evening at Gersten Pavilion.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:
- Trading points in the early stages of the first set, San Francisco and LMU remained tied at five following a Hayden Goodman kill. The Lions, however, regained the lead and used a 9-4 scoring run to open a 14-9 advantage midway through the frame.
- The Lions continued to build their lead in the back half of the first, as a Mia Schafer service ace extended the lead to eight, 22-14.
- San Francisco battled back, recording four of the following five points, led by kills from Michalina Rola and Astrid Puig, to cut the deficit to 23-18. LMU concluded the opening set shortly after, winning the final two points to solidify the early lead, 25-18.
- The Dons began the second set on a high note, using multiple scoring runs to take a 16-8 lead. The green and gold's defense was the difference at the start of the frame, forcing the Lions into six attack errors. Rola, Delaney Ewing, and Petkova also paced the team offensively, combining for six kills during the run.
- LMU bounced back, erasing the deficit to tie the set at 19, following an 11-3 run. The Lions later won the frame, winning the final three points to take the second set, 25-22.
- LMU dominated the third and final frame, holding San Francisco to eight points, winning the set 25-8 to earn the straight-set victory.
- Petkova and Rola led the team offensively, recording five kills apiece. Petkova also recorded a team-high eight digs while picking up one block assist.
- Ewing posted a team-best .667 hitting percentage, totaling four kills on six attempts. The freshman middle blocker led the Dons' front line defensively, recording two blocks.
San Francisco returns to action at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 16, when it takes on Pepperdine at Firestone Fieldhouse.
