Dons Dominate Pilots in Straight Sets

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – The University of San Francisco volleyball team (14-9, 7-4 WCC) earned a convincing straight sets victory, defeating Portland (11-11, 4-8 WCC) in straight sets, pushing its winning streak to two, Thursday evening at War Memorial at the Sobrato Center.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:
- Delaney Ewing began the scoring for San Francisco in the opening set, posting a kill from the middle to give the team an early 1-0 lead.
- Leading 9-8 in the first set, the Dons strengthened their advantage with a 9-0 scoring run, as Amelia Dombrowksa and Astrid Puig combined for five kills to expand the lead to a 10-point advantage, 18-8.
- Maintaining the 10-point lead at 20-10, San Francisco continued its momentum as Hayden Goodman and Michalina led the green and gold offensively to reach set point, 24-10.
- Despite three straight Portland points, the Dons grabbed the first set, 25-13, following a service error from Tinoa Woodward-Hart to secure the frame.
- Portland began the second set well, recording six of the first 10 points for an early 6-4 advantage. With the frame tied at four, the Pilots kickstarted a 3-0 run with a Taina Kaauwai kill, a block, and a service ace.
- San Francisco responded quickly, regaining the lead, as two kills from Rola and an Abby Wadas service ace steered the Dons to an 8-6 edge.
- Leading by a narrow three-point margin, 17-15, the Dons put the frame away with a 9-1 scoring run, with Goodman helping guide the team with two kills, a block assist, and a service ace before taking the set 25-16.
- Back-to-back kills by Ewing and Puig set the tone in the third set, putting the Dons on the scoreboard first, 2-0.
- San Francisco and Portland began to trade points early in the final frame, tied at 11 midway through. The Dons, however, regained the lead for good with a 4-0 run for a 14-11 edge.
- The Pilots continued to keep the frame close, cutting the Dons' lead to 18-17 following a 3-1 run.
- San Francisco held serve the rest of the way, as Dombrowska, Ewing, Puig, and Aylen Ayub recorded four of the last five points to secure the frame and match, 25-19.
- Rola recorded a team-high 10 kills, marking the 17th time this season she has reached double-digit kills. Rola also led the team with 11.5 points while posting a .370 kill percentage.
- Dombrowska, shined during the three-set match, recording eight kills and a team-leading and season-high .412 hitting percentage.
- Giving the green and gold a spark offensively and defensively, Goodman totaled four blocks and tallied five kills.
- As a team, the Dons posted a .333 hitting percentage, the fifth time the program has swung .300 or better during conference play this season.
