SAN JOSE, Calif. – The University of San Francisco volleyball team (5-5) concluded season-opening nonconference road trip, falling to San Jose State (7-0) 3-0 Thursday evening at Spartan Gym.
 
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:

• San Francisco fell behind early as San Jose State jumped out to an early 5-2 advantage in the opening frame. The Dons, however, climbed back into the first set, using a 3-0 scoring run highlighted by a Hayden Goodman solo block to tie the set at five.
• The Spartans answered shortly after, regaining the lead with five straight points for a 10-5 edge.
• The Spartans continued to lead throughout the first set, securing the early advantage in the match, 25-16.
• The Dons continued to battle in a highly contested second set, as the score remained close throughout. With the set tied at 14, the Dons rattled off three straight points with kills from Goodman and Michalina Rola and a service ace from Aylen Ayub to lead 17-14. The Spartans responded with a 7-1 run shortly after to take the lead back for good and ultimately winning the frame, 26-24.
• San Jose State dominated the final frame, holding the green and gold to only four points en route to a 10-4 edge. After the Dons pulled within nine points, 21-12, late in the set, the Spartans recorded four of the final six points to secure the set and match, 25-14.

NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:

• Delaney Ewing led San Francisco with eight kills while recording a perfect hitting and kill percentage.
• Goodman and Maria Petkova combined for five blocks, with Goodman leading the squad with three.
• Jolei Akima posted six digs, while Amelia Dombrowska, Ayub, Petkova, and Rola added three apiece.

UP NEXT:
San Francisco returns to action at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 20, when it hosts Air Force in the home opener at War Memorial at the Sobrato Center.
