Kamansky Scores, Dons Tie Toreros in San Diego

SAN DIEGO, Calif. - On the road to begin West Coast Conference action, the University of San Francisco women's soccer team (4-4-1, 0-0-1 WCC) battled San Diego (2-4-4, 0-0-1 WCC) for a full 90 minutes on Wednesday night as the Dons and Toreros finished in a hard-fought 1-1 draw at Torero Stadium.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:
  • Applying pressure out of the gates, Kaitlyn Sasadeusz fired the first three shots of the match for either side as the sophomore also logged the game's first shot on target at 5:42, which was ultimately denied by San Diego goalkeeper Ilise Medrano.
  • As the half played on, San Francisco continued to fire at the cage as Lindsey Chau, Jackie Koerwitz, Kate Zimmerman and Allison Kamansky all got a look to score, but none could convert to begin the evening.
  • Following another shot on goal from Sasadeusz and another save from Medrano with 30 seconds left in the half, the match remained scoreless at the halftime break, 0-0. Through the first 45 minutes, the green and gold held a 10-4 advantage in shots.
  • Staying on the heels of the Toreros, Sasadeusz went on to record the first shot of the second half for San Francisco, but it was Kamansky who got the Dons on the scoreboard at 51:04 when the senior was in the perfect position following a San Diego defender attempting to clear a pass. Stepping up, Kamansky rocketed her first goal of the season past Medrano to put the green and gold up 1-0.
  • Across the next thirty plus minutes, Chau, Sasadeuz and Sydni Yoshida each tallied shot for San Francisco but none found the back of the net. Clawing back down the stretch, Tamia Graham came up clutch in the box for San Diego at 85:43 as she also found herself in the right place to even the score at 1-1.
  • Piecing together one final attack, Koerwitz got a look on frame with 29 seconds left in regulation, but Medrano came up with a stop to keep the match tied. At the end of 90 minutes, the two teams remained level at 1-1.
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:
  • Kamansky's strike in the 52nd minute marked her first goal of the season and just the second goal of her collegiate career. Notably, her only other goal came in San Francisco's 4-1 win at UC San Diego on Sept. 14, 2022.
  • Dangerous with the ball at her feet, Sasadeusz set a new career-high in shots for the second match in a row as the forward finished with a match-high seven total shots on the night.
  • As a team, the dons outshot the Toreros 17-12, including a 6-5 mark in shots on target.
UP NEXT:
San Francisco will return home to the Hilltop this weekend as the Dons will welcome Bay Area rival No. 12 Santa Clara for a 6:00 pm matchup this Saturday, Sept. 28. Live streaming, statistics and ticket links are available via the team's schedule page.
