Box Score SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. - Opening conference play on the Hilltop, the University of San Francisco women's soccer team (4-5-1, 0-1-1 WCC) battled through misty conditions but ultimately fell to #12 Santa Clara (7-2-1, 1-0 WCC), 4-0, on Saturday night at Negoesco Stadium.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:
- Wasting no time, Santa Clara picked up the first score of the contest with a goal from Addie Whitehouse in the second minute of the match as the Broncos took an early 1-0 lead. In the 30th minute, SCU doubled their advantage by way of Whitehouse's second goal of the night.
- Santa Clara put the pressure on San Francisco defensively as the Dons tallied just one shot in the first half via Sydni Yoshida. At the halftime break, the Broncos mainted their 2-0 lead.
- In her return to the Hilltop, former Don Marissa Vasquez scored the Broncos' third goal of the match in the 51st minute to push the score to 3-0 in favor of SCU. In the 82nd minute, Kennedy Schoennauer found the back of the net for Santa Clara's fourth goal of the match.
- San Francisco was able to fire off five shots in the second half, courtesy of Kaitlyn Sasadeusz, Gabby Rizzo, Alex Carpio, Jackie Koerwitz and Lindsey Chau, but the Dons were unable to score in their first home game of conference play as Santa Clara captured the 4-0 victory on Saturday night.
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:
- Overall, six Dons fired off a shot in the match, including Lindsey Chau recording her sixth shot on goal of the season, good for second-most on the team behind Kaitlyn Sasadeusz (11).
- In the cage, Kira Ybarra tallied four saves, once again playing all 90 minutes. Ybarra has totaled 90 minutes on the pitch in every match of the 2024 season.
- Off the bench, Sydney Harpster played a career-high 64 minutes against Santa Clara for the green and gold.
