SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – The University of San Francisco baseball team (22-29, 8-15 WCC) earned a shutout victory over Portland (21-25, 12-8 WCC) with a commanding 6-0 win Saturday afternoon at Benedetti Diamond.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:
- Kenny DeCelle set the tone in the bottom of the first, driving in Kody Watanabe with a sharp double down the left-field line and later scoring on a passed ball to give the Dons a quick 2-0 advantage.
- In the fourth, Jordan Lewis came through with a clutch two-run double, stretching the lead to 4-0 as the Dons applied pressure.
- DeCelle remained hot in the seventh, launching a solo home run to left field and adding insurance, pushing the score to 5-0
- Patrick Keighran joined the home run parade in the eighth, recording a solo shot to deep center to extend the Dons' lead to 6-0.
- Pitching the final 5.2 innings, Joe Soberon closed out the game in the top of the ninth, holding the Pilots to two baserunners while punching out the final batter to earn the victory.
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:
- DeCelle had a massive game at the plate, going three-for-four with a double, home run, two RBI, and two runs scored.
- At the start, Lance Santerre was solid on the mound, tossing 3.1 scoreless innings, allowing two hits, two walks, and struck out four batters.
- Soberon turned in a dominant relief outing, going 5.2 innings with just one hit, no runs, three walks, and two strikeouts, earning the win.
