SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – The University of San Francisco baseball team (23-29, 9-15 WCC) closed out its final conference series with a 9-6 win over Portland (21-26, 12-9 WCC) on Sunday afternoon at Benedetti Diamond.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:
- San Francisco fell behind early after Cole Stall-Katayama's two-run single up the middle gave Portland a 2-0 lead in the top of the first.
- San Francisco responded in the fourth, stringing key at-bats with RBI base hits from Tyler Harries and JT Amaral to jump ahead 4-2.
- The Pilots swung the momentum back in their favor during the sixth and seventh innings, taking a 5-4 lead with Stall-Katayama's supplying a two-run double.
- The Dons responded with a surge of their own, as Kody Watanabe launched a two-run home run in the seventh to reclaim the lead at 6-5.
- In the eighth, Kenny DeCelle padded the advantage with a two-run triple, extending the Dons' lead to 9-5.
- Zach Toglia added a late solo home run for Portland, but San Francisco held on for a 9-6 win and secured the series victory.
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:
- Watanabe sparked the Dons' late-game surge with a one-for-four day, highlighted by a clutch two-run home run that flipped the momentum back in San Francisco's favor.
- Harries and Amaral added to the offensive push, combining for two hits, four RBI, and one run scored.
- Hunter Holzemer locked down the final six outs, throwing two solid innings, giving up one run on two hits with two walks and a strikeout, sealing the 9-6 win for the Dons with his first save of the season.
