SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – The University of San Francisco baseball team (24-29) opened its final series of the regular season with an 8-3 victory over Utah Valley (28-25) on Wednesday afternoon at Benedetti Diamond.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:
- San Francisco built an early lead with a four-run first inning, starting with an RBI single from Eddison Esquivel to open the scoring.
- Utah Valley responded in the top of the second, trimming the deficit in half, 4-2, following a Luke Iverson two-run home run.
- Esquivel kept the momentum in the third, driving in TJ Rogers with his second RBI single of the afternoon. Matty Fung followed with a clutch bases-clearing double, widening San Francisco's lead to 8-2.
- The Wolverines tried to rally behind Brody Block's RBI double, but the Dons held firm down the stretch to secure the victory.
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:
- Esquivel delivered a strong performance at the plate, finishing three-for-four with a double and two RBI.
- Fung drove in a team-high three runs with a key double in the third inning.
- Adam Shew earned the win in relief, delivering two scoreless innings with two strikeouts and no walks, keeping Utah Valley off the board during a key stretch.
UP NEXT:
San Francisco is back in action for game two of the series against Utah Valley on Thursday afternoon, with first pitch set for 2:00 p.m. at Benedetti Diamond.
