San Francisco Earns Series-Clinching Win Over Utah Valley

Box Score

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. - The University of San Francisco baseball team (25-29) secured the series clinching win over Utah Valley (28-25), in a 3-1 victory Thursday afternoon at Benedetti Diamond.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:

  • Following two scoreless innings to begin the game, Utah Valley took an early 1-0 advantage in the third inning as Jimmy De Anda scored on a Mason Strong sacrifice fly. The Wolverines opened the frame with three straight singles to load the bases and tallied the game's first run before the Dons worked out of a jam.
  • San Francisco responded in the bottom of the fourth inning, with Brendan Burke and Myles Kallinger posting back-to-back RBI singles to give the Dons a 2-1 advantage. Patrick Keighran led off the inning with a double and later scored on the Burke infield knock before Trevor Harmon, who earned a four-pitch walk, scored the go-ahead run on Kallinger's single to center field.
  • Swinging at the first pitch in the following frame, Eddison Esquivel launched a solo home run over the right-field wall to extend the lead to 3-1.
  • The green and gold shut out the Wolverines in the final four frames to secure the series victory.

NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:

  • Esquival went two-for-three at the plate, recorded his 11th home run of the season, and increased his batting average to .314.
  • Kallinger added two hits throughout the contest, his second multi-hit game, and posted the go-ahead RBI single in the fourth inning.
  • Gabriel Barrett earned the start on the mound, his ninth start of the campaign, allowing one run on five hits and striking out a season-high seven batters in four innings pitched.
  • Tyler Prystajko, Hunter Holzemer, and Quentin Pohorski combined for five innings pitched out of the bullpen and allowed just two hits.
  • Pohorski pitched the final 1.1 frames and picked up his team-leading sixth save of the season.
