SAN DIEGO, Calif. - In a low-scoring pitching duel, the University of San Francisco baseball team (20-27, 7-13 WCC) fell at San Diego (19-26, 13-4 WCC) 4-2 Saturday evening at by at Fowler Park.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:
- San Francisco started hot, with Kody Watanabe connecting on a leadoff triple. Kenny DeCelle followed shortly after with a long sacrifice fly to right center to drive in Watanabe for a 1-0 advantage.
- After three scoreless innings, the Dons doubled their lead in the top of the fifth with a JT Amaral home run, pushing the margin to 2-0.
- Three unanswered runs gave San Diego the lead in the bottom half of the frame, giving the Toreros a 3-2 edge. Jack Gurevitch highlighted the inning with a two-RBI double to supply the Toreros with their first lead of the game.
- An insurance run was plated in the eighth when AJ Beltre recorded a bases-loaded sacrifice fly, scoring Isaiah Lane to give the Toreros a 4-2 lead.
- The Dons failed to score in the top of the ninth, as the Toreros earned the series win despite a Zack Ramppen one-out single.
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:
- Amaral recorded one hit in four at-bats throughout the contest, hitting his fifth home run of the season.
- Watanabe and Eddison Esquivel combined for two triples, the most for the green and gold in a game this season.
- Lance Santerre held San Diego without a hit through four complete innings, finishing the game allowing two earned runs on one hit and striking out three batters in 4.2 frames.
