BERKELEY, Calif. – The University of San Francisco volleyball team (0-1) dropped its first match of the California Tournament, falling to San Diego State (1-1) 3-0 in the 2025 season opener on Saturday afternoon at Haas Pavilion.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:
- Going back and forth at the start of the opening frame, San Diego State, leading San Francisco 10-9, used a 3-0 scoring run to take control of the set, 13-9.
- The Aztecs dominated throughout the remainder of the set, securing a 25-16 win to take the early advantage.
- A 25-19 second-set loss put San Francisco in a 2-0 deficit in the match. The green and gold trailed by as many as six points as San Diego State grabbed the advantage for good at 4-3 in a set that was tied up three times before the Aztecs took over the lead.
- The Dons came up short in the final frame, falling in a narrow 25-20 decision as the Aztecs finished off the sweep with a third-set win.
- Trailing 21-15 in the back half of the set, kills from Emilija Arsic and Anica Bobic sparked a 3-0 run to trim the deficit to 21-18. The team later got within three, 23-20, before the Aztecs recorded the final two points to solidify the victory.
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:
- Offensively, Hannah Taylor led the team in kills with seven while Andrea Fabikovicová added a team-high 10 assists in her collegiate debut.
- Abby Wadas recorded 15 digs throughout the three-set match, her fourth straight contest with double-digit digs dating back to last season.
- Cagla Bengi, in her first-ever match with the green and gold, totaled two service aces to lead the team.

San Francisco concludes the California Tournament at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 31, when it takes on California at Haas Pavilion.
